Chronology of cameras Butcher
In the early stages of its existence, Butcher primarily sold models from Germany under its own names, with only the lens and sometimes the shutter added in the United Kingdom.
This folding field camera is no exception, as it is a camera manufactured by Hüttig, the Helios (before it became an Ica). The focal-plane shutter is retained. While some versions feature distinctly German lenses (Goerz Dagor and Zeiss Tessar), others showcase more British optics (Aldis, Ross).
The spelling of the word "Ralli" is rather peculiar and does not correspond to anything in English. The word "Rallye" existed before it became associated with automobile races; it referred to horse races and scavenger hunts. Nevertheless, it still conveys the idea of speed, likely the reason it was chosen for this camera, whose shutter reaches a thousandth of a second.
